Creed Development

A great way to show the sincerity of your worship is to have a personal Creed, or statement of your beliefs. I recommend having a creed, to guide your worship and to demonstrate your sincerity.

Develop your creed!

How do you develop, inform, and explore your beliefs? What connects you to Source? Take some time to explore these thoughts and write them down

Personal Spiritual Creed Worksheet

A reflective form for articulating sincere religious or spiritual beliefs connected to consciousness-expanding medicines and worship practices. Use this worksheet to write in your own voice. It is strongest when it is specific, humble, internally consistent, and honest about limits. Do not overstate certainty, membership, history, or obligations.

Basic Information

Six Core Prompts

1. Core Belief

What do you believe is sacred, divine, ultimate, or spiritually authoritative, and how do consciousness, healing, truth, service, nature, ancestors, God, gods, Spirit, or mystery fit into that belief?

Consider naming: the beliefs you actually hold; where they came from; what you do not claim to know.

Simple example: I believe the sacred is present in all living things and that spiritual practice helps me become more honest, humble, and compassionate. I do not claim to have final answers, but I treat direct experiences of awe, conscience, and healing as spiritually meaningful.

2. Sacred Purpose of the Practice

Describe the worship practice or consciousness-expanding medicine practice you consider religious or spiritual. Why is it sacramental, devotional, initiatory, healing, revelatory, or otherwise sacred rather than merely recreational or self-improvement oriented? Consider naming: the medicine or practice; its role in prayer, ceremony, communion, repentance, healing, or moral formation; why substitutes may or may not serve the same purpose.

Consider naming: the medicine or practice; its role in prayer, ceremony, communion, repentance, healing, or moral formation; why substitutes may or may not serve the same purpose.

Simple example: I understand this practice as a form of prayer and reflection, not recreation. Its purpose is to help me listen, change where needed, seek healing, and return to daily life with more integrity.

3. Moral Commitments & Obligations

What does this path require of you? Describe the ethical duties, disciplines, restraints, preparation, integration, service, honesty, non-harm, stewardship, or community responsibilities that flow from your beliefs.

Consider naming: required conduct; prohibited conduct; preparation and integration; duties to others; respect for consent and boundaries.

Simple example: This path asks me to be truthful, avoid harm, respect consent, prepare carefully, and integrate what I learn through service and changed behavior. It also requires restraint, including not treating sacred practice as entertainment or escape.

4. Personal History & Sincerity

How did these beliefs develop over time, and how are they visible in your life today? Include formative experiences, study, teachers, community, ceremonies, prayer, changes in conduct, and ways your practice has remained consistent or matured.

Consider naming: timeline; meaningful experiences; regular practices; sacrifices or choices made because of the belief; what has changed and why.

Simple example: These beliefs developed gradually through prayer, study, personal healing work, and time with people walking a similar path. Over time, the practice has made me more careful about my choices and more committed to living in alignment with my values.

5. Ceremony, Safety, and Stewardship

Describe how the practice is carried out responsibly. Address setting, preparation, screening, dosage or limits when applicable, informed consent, sober support, emergency planning, integration, confidentiality, sourcing, storage, and preventing diversion or misuse.

Consider naming: who participates; who does not; health and safety practices; recordkeeping; non-commercial boundaries; protection of the medicine and community.

Simple example: I believe sacred practice must include preparation, clear consent, appropriate support, confidentiality, health screening, and a sober plan for safety. I also believe the medicine and ceremony should be protected from misuse, casual sharing, or commercial pressure.

6. Burden & Requested Accommodation

If a law, policy, employer, agency, institution, or other authority prevents this practice, what religious exercise is burdened? What specific accommodation would allow the practice while respecting health, safety, non-diversion, and the rights of others?

Consider naming: the exact conflict; why the burden matters religiously; the narrowest workable accommodation; safeguards you can accept.

Simple example: If a policy prevents me from participating in a sincere ceremony, it burdens a practice I understand as part of my religious life. A narrow accommodation would allow participation under clear safety, privacy, and non-diversion safeguards.

Personal Creed Statement

In one to three paragraphs, write the concise creed you would be willing to stand behind. Use plain language. State what you believe, what you practice, why it is sacred, and what ethical limits govern it.

Simple example: I believe sacred medicine practice is a serious spiritual path that calls me toward truth, healing, humility, and service. I approach it with prayer, preparation, safety, consent, and respect for the community, and I do not treat it as recreation or a license to ignore the law or the wellbeing of others.
